Description
This lovely home appliance was used for ironing clothes. You heated it up on the stove, and then slipped a cooler handled tin cover lined with asbestos to protect you from the hot iron over the heavy hot iron. It locked in place, and you were good to go.
A sad iron (or sadiron) is a different name for a flat iron. The word “Sad” in this case means “solid” and suggests a heavy iron with a thick base.
Simple devices like these made household chores seem a lot easier, and were well worth the investment.
This particular unit was picked up at a garage sale for a buck, which was actually a pretty good deal. -YoPedro
